Record building with a view Varso Place, Warsaw (PL)
Varso Place, with its 300-metre-high tower, watches over the whole of Warsaw. The building complex revitalises a once run-down street - and receives various certificates for sustainable construction. One of them thanks to Geberit products.
310 metres, 53 storeys: If you include the antenna, the main tower of Varso Place in Warsaw (PL) easily breaks the record. The Varso Tower is taller than the German Commerzbank Tower in Frankfurt or the Spanish Torre Caja in Madrid - and thus the tallest skyscraper in the European Union.
But nothing is gained with height alone. Varso Place can do much more. The construction complex of three buildings combines an innovation centre, hotel, restaurants, cafés, shops, offices and offers a wide range of services in what has become one of the busiest areas of the Polish capital.
Once burnt down, now revitalised
It was not always like this. Chmielna Street, where this new building is located, was once a run-down street, partially burned down during the Warsaw Uprising in 1943 and not rebuilt for a long time afterwards. Since 2009, the east end of the street has functioned as a historical monument. The west end now shines in new splendour thanks to Varso Place.
At the heart of the complex is a plaza, enclosed in a glass frame and enlivened with trees and benches. Here, people are meant to enjoy the surroundings - in an “urban space“ with a seamless connection between everyday office life and the public, as the architectural firm Foster + Partners describes it. Grant Brooker of Foster + Partners says: “We are convinced that the tower, with its activity opportunities and public areas on the roof, will make a positive contribution to this wonderful city.“
The high build quality of the site is also part of this positive contribution. The BREEAM certificate confirms the sustainability of the construction. The WELL label, meanwhile, shows how much the buildings take into account people's physical and mental health. The quality of air, water and light, for example, are assessed.
Geberit supply systems and more
Geberit piping systems are particularly responsible for the water quality awarded the certificate. For example, three different Geberit supply systems are used throughout the entire development: Mapress copper pipes for fresh water, heating and cooling as well as the Mepla and Volex multilayer piping systems, which ensure a reliable and hygienic water supply. Several other products from the Geberit catalogue also ensure reliability and hygiene in the bathrooms.
